Over 130 spinners came from all over the northwest. Every type of wheel was represented. I saw some very innovative new models but I still love my Lendrum double tredle and there were plenty others of this model. For the first time<a href="http://norskneedlework.com"> Norsk</a> <a href="http://norskneedlework.com">Needlework</a> had its own booth. It was a joy to show my sweater models and talk with the knitters. We found some new knitters to take stranded classes too. <a href="http://shaggybearfarms.com">Shaggy Bear Farms</a> from Scio Oregon had a lovely booth. Their yarns and rovings are gorgeous. They represent quite a few breeds of sheep:Gotland, Shetland, Blue Faced Leicester, Icelandic and Cotswold. That is not even all of them! A cute baby corgi named Olive came too, and was super well behaved. My friend Kathy helped me and can be seen knitting the sleeve of "Wild Blue Horses" in a gorgeous shade of olive and very dark navy. I will put up a good picture on my web site when she is finished. I was able to stay at a member's bed and breakfast in Carleton, <a style="color: rgb(255, 204, 51);" href="http://www.rrthompsonhouse.com/index.htm">The Thompson House</a>. This was a lovely historical place from the 1930's and so fun to sleep and eat there. Here are some pictures of the B&B and of the talk at the DON. Annelei, a beautiful young girl that was in last years Lucia Court, modeled my sweaters for the ladies. I then drove to Aurora for our stitch in. I included some of the " "finishes" from this group. A Tree Alone done by Nancy, designer <a style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0);" href="http://www.rosewoodxstitch.com/">Karen Kluba</a>, and both Cirque des Cercles and Bramble and Rose from<a style="color: rgb(255, 255, 0);" href="http://inkcircles.com"> Ink Circles</a> (my daughter's designs). Stitched by Diane and Tara respectively. The Oregon scenery is just outside of Carleton. Tracy Horner, my daughter, made it from left over yarn from my original Norsk Needlework shop in WY. She gave me permission to re knit it in currently available yarn, Rauma Strikkegarn. So I made it and wrote a chart, produced the pattern and we are offering it as designed by both of us! This was very fun. Don't you love the original picture of Tracy holding the first sweater? (on the porch) Every one keeps asking me if the model for the current "Norwegian Snakes" is my daughter. There is a resemblance. Tra and I are having fun sharing both our sites. My Fjord Ponies embroidery is distributed at <a style="color: rgb(255, 255, 102);" href="http://inkcircles.com">Ink Circles</a> and her/my sweater is on my site. This is a fun knit. She had her first booth with "Ink Circles" and as I had a picture in the show in her site I got to accompany her. It was a whole different perspective to be at a show as a designer. I was honored to meet so many of my favorite designers and also people who dye linens and threads. I fell in love with the<a style="color: rgb(255, 153, 102);" href="http://www.thegentleart.com/ga/sampler.htm"> Gentle Art threads</a> and<a style="color: rgb(255, 204, 0);" href="http://www.picturethisplus.com/html/ptp_cross_stitch_fabric.html"> Picture this Plus linens</a>.Seeing the models up close was fantastic. So much is never portrayed in pictures. We were not allowed to take pictures of booths, however Karen Kluba let us take a picture of her and of her booth. She is the designer for <a style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);" href="http://www.rosewoodxstitch.com/">"Rosewood Manor"</a>. I have been stitching her designs for years and am really happy to have her new pattern "Spring Quakers" ready to go. It is shown to the right of Karen. I put up a picture of my "Wild Blue Horses" sweater and cap which went to the show too. It is fairly obvious that my "Fjord Ponies" picture was based on my knitting designs. A few came from across the country. We were blessed with 4 days of nearly total sunshine and warm temps. What a retreat and total relaxation. Our 2 cooks, Vicki and Donna did all the work and we never even had to wash a dish. We did venture out for some nice walks in Union along the Hood Canal and even into a nearby town of Shelton to a super small brewery and tea shop where we all got fun sweatshirts to match!  I took so many pictures that I will put them in an album on my blog. The setting was fantastically beautiful! I actually got a lot of embroidery done. I must also mention we had a blast cooking s'mores. Both patterns may also be purchased on Ravelry. I am very excited about the "Wild Blue Horses sweater" which is about at the half way mark on the body. It is definitely the most fun sweater I have designed and much easier to knit than it looks. It is a Norwegian design with some influence from the Netherlands. I am happy to say it is for ME. I don't think I could give it up. What I do want to do is make a whole range of sizes from adult to babies. This will take awhile and the adult pattern will be out in 6 weeks or so. As I usually do, I used Rauma Finullgarn. I like it better than ever. It is a very good weight knit for our rainy, cool, Oregon weather. An aside for my fans who speak French, the Quaker mittens have a French translation. " Mitaines Quaker". I heard there were 135 participants, many more this year. There were quite a few vendors too. Vikings were present, even some little would be Vikings. I always enjoy the food and we filled up on Swedish meatballs, red cabbage and abelskiver for dessert. But first we saw some incredible Rosemaling  by<a style="color: rgb(255, 204, 51);" href="http://gayleoram.com/"> Gayle Orem</a>. She has a wonderful website with many books and cd's to get started painting in this style. As a needle worker I truly enjoyed all the hardanger, woven goods and knitting. We took about 200 pictures between John and I. It was a terribly hard decision to select the best for the patterns. I thought it would be fun to post some of the good ones here too. There are a number of scenic areas around our coastal home. The ones at the docks won out because of the interest in the ships and harbor. Our fishermen are mostly in port until the start of crabbing season Dec 1. The lighthouse is Yaquina Bay lighthouse, and a beautiful one at that. The close ocean ones are at "Rocky Point" state park. Patti is a trooper and a super model! I am amazed by the colorful display of finishes! Once again we gathered at Vickies and  <a style="color: rgb(255, 255, 102);" href="www.acornsandthreads.com/"></a>  <a style="color: rgb(255, 255, 153);" href="http://www.acornsandthreads.com/">  Acorns and Threads</a> to have a whole weekend devoted to embroidery and of course eating. The difference this time in the completed pieces was the color, especially of linen. I saw wonderful reds, copper and "Vintage Woodsmoke" mostly products of <a style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0);" href="http://lakesidelinens.com/">Lakeside Linens</a>. Predominately silks were used in a rainbow of colors and over-dyes. Jennifer (in the white T-shirt) working on "Dutch Beauty" (and it is beautiful!) had a number of finishes including "Forgiveness/ EFTH", a mystery Quaker, and "Rhapsody in Red/<a style="color: rgb(255, 204, 51);" href="http://www.sampler-cove-designs.blogspot.com/"> Sampler Cove</a>". This piece has bands in the Assisi style, as well as cross st. Catrina stitched the adorable pups and Eagle. One other gorgeous piece is the Quilt sampler designed by <a style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);" href="http://www.rosewoodxstitch.com/">Karen Kluba</a>. These are truly gifted and talented stitchers. It should be completed (one sleeve and collar to go) in the next week. Then there are pictures to take and a pattern to write... so the completed pattern should be up and published in a couple weeks. I am really determined to get it finished because I have an idea for another sweater! I never thought I could think up new designs faster than I could knit them. I was inspired of course, all you needle workers know this, by the Quaker schoolgirl embroideries of the early 1900's. I wanted this sweater to be more "girl y" hence the mauve and the Lacey bottom. It is somewhat different from my usual Norwegian sweaters and has been so fun to knit. The mittens are finished too and I will include pictures of each side.  You may notice the squirrel and stellar jay (from my home in Oregon) and the little jack in the pulpit (from my childhood in Minnesota). Most of us are on the Yahoo group Northwest stitchers and have met at these events before so it is meeting up with old friends. I went with my daughter and her daughter so we had three generations of stitchers. There was much excitement as they are from the Nevada high desert, so this was new. Yaquina head marine garden has a lot of cormorants and common muirs nesting. The garden was abundant with starfish, urchins, anemones and little crabs. The girls were able to catch a little yellow crab. The aquarium was wonderful as usual. The "Odd Water" exhibit is still on with spectacular blown glass. But I can't bear to cut some out. It was a GREAT Black Sheep Gathering! There were vendors stuck in every nook and cranny and the overdyed fiber and yarn were stunning. I almost spent more time taking pictures than buying yarn! I have no will power at all with these beautiful fibers. I noticed a lot of new natural fibers like "Sea Cell" from the cellulose of kelp. The gallery of hand made felted, knit and hand spun items were beautiful. The white felted jacket was a prize winner of my friend Shannon of <a style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" href="http://www.kenleigh-acres.com">"Kenleigh Acres"</a>. That is where I bought the blue faced leicester lambs wool for my cabled sweater that I am spinning and knitting. (half done spinning and partially knit!)  I just love this fiber!  The yellow/brown/green shawl was gorgeous, all handspun yarn.  I really loved<a style="background-color: rgb(255, 102, 0);" href="http://www.tactilefiberarts.com"> Tactile Fiber Arts</a> yarn. Very beautiful hand dyed yarn. I found a secret trail that very few people know about. This led to the wild iris on the cliff. What a special day! It was breathtaking!  This is such rugged coast, one mis-step and it is a long fall. It was so windy but as we went down the trail we got out of the wind and it was warm, sunny and terriffic. I think there are so many small to larger designs in Sirkler that I could do improvisations ad infinitum. I will put in a picture of "Cirque" so you all can see my wonderful inspiration. As many of you already know, Tracy is my eldest daughter and owner of "Ink Circles". This has been in progress over the winter and I am so happy to say is complete. This design was definitely inspired by her <a style="color: rgb(255, 153, 102);" href="http://inkcircles.com/html/Cercles%20Gallery.html">"Cirque des Circles"</a> embroidery pattern, which has been such a huge success.  I had such fun designing this and using her ideas,  but coming up with something very different. It is made in Rauma "Finullgarn". I just love this yarn and have been using it more and more. It is hard wearing but soft and comes in over 100 colors. Such a decision what to do next!
